Reggie Berg is an Anoka native. He participated in the Minnesota Selects Festival in 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1993. he remembers with enthusiasm the fun he had and the good friends he made. Reggie's first on ice experience was when he was two years old. His dad took him to the neighborhood rink and had him push a little blue plastic chair around until he felt comfortable going on his own. It wasn't long and he got rid of the chair. At the age of five Reggie was on his first mite team. He went through the Anoka youth program with many successes and memorable experiences. When he was a Squirt they went to the Silverstick tournament in Sarnia, Canada where he was chosen as a member of the ALl0Star tournament team.. s a Bantam they won the State VFW tournament, took 2nd in the MAHA tournament, 3rd in the National tournament and won the Silverstick tournament in Sarnia, Canada. Reggie ended his first year of Bantams scoring 129 goals in 69 games. After youth hockey Reggie made the Anoka High School team as a ninth-grader. His freshman year he led the team in scoring. His sophomore year he became All-Conference, All-Metro, and All-State. his hard work in school won him the Metro Scholar Athlete Award. What would have been his Junior year for Anoka High School became first first year of playing Junior Hockey in the United States Junior League in Des Moines, Iowa. It was a hard decision to leave his family and friends but he knew the rewards would be greater playing a lot more games and laying against higher competition. For him the decision he made proved to be the right one. he had many successes in Des Moines. He attended school at Valley High School where he maintained a 3.7 grade point average. Reggie's first year in Des Moines he won the Anderson Cup (league champions), the Clark Cup and one the National Championship.. Reggie's senior year in Des Moines he was selected to the USHL All-Star team and led the play-offs with the most goals despite playing with a wrist that required surgery during the off-season. Despite being recruited by many Division I schools Reggie decided to become a Golden Gopher. As a freshman he scored 23 goals making him the 3rd highest scoring freshman in the history of the University of Minnesota. The following summer he was selected to play on the United States National Select Team in Finland where he had the unfortunate experience of breaking his ankle. After messing the first few games of the regular season Reggie helped the Gophers win the McNaughton Cup. As a junior despite the teams off season Berg was the league Co-Scoring Champion and was named to the 2nd WCHA All-Star Team.. He was also awarded the unsung Hero plaque by his teammates.. During his senior year Reggie scored his 150 point to make him a member of the 150 Point Club which includes only 23 members. He was awarded the unsung hero plaque a second time. Hockey game Reggie the chance to travel Internationally going to Switzerland in 1992 with the USA Select Team, in 1993 he went to Japan with the USA Select 17 Team, is 1995 he was a part of the US National Team going to Red Deer, Alberta. Also in 1996 he went to Boston for the US National Team in the World Junior Championships. Reggie was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs and is undecided what his future will be, but, is looking forward to playing hockey at a higher level. Hard work and dedication brought Reggie many unbelievable opportunities including paying for the Minnesota Selects.
