Brian played Youth and High School Hockey at White Bear Lake where he was a multi-sport athlete earning a total of six letters in hockey, soccer, and tennis.  He garnered all conference, all metro and all-state honors in hockey from 1990 to 1992.  During his senior year, Brian scored an impressive 23 goals and had 35 assists in 19 games.  He was honored as Minnesota's "Mr. Hockey" and was also Honor athlete of the year in 1992.

Brian is now a Senior at the University of Minnesota where he has been a standout for the Gopher Hockey Team.  As a freshman Brian scored 10 goals and had 18 assists earning a spot on the WCHA all-rookie team and as a U of M Scholar-Athlete.

As a sophomore Brian finished second on the team in scoring with 24 goals and 20 assists.  An All-WCHA honorable mention selection and member of the WCHA All-Academic Team as well as U of M Scholar-Athlete followed.  Brian also participated in the U.S. Junior Olympic Festival in St. Louis MO and played in all four games as a member of the 1994 USA Select Team that participated in the Tampere Cup in Finland.

As a Junior Brian was named first-team All-American, the first Golden Gopher since Robb Stauber in 1998, was selected as the WCHA player of the year and was a Hobey Baker Award finalist.  He added WCHA All-Academic Team, U of M Scholar-Athlete for the third consecutive year and Academic ALl-Big Ten to his list of Honors.  Brian again was a member of the USA Select Team which was runner-up for the Tampere Cup in Finland.

As a Senior Brian is captain of the Gophers and leading them to another run at a NCAA Championship.  He again is an All-American candidate, a Hobey Baker finalist and on his way to the WCHA All-Academic Team and U of M Scholar Athlete for the fourth consecutive year.

Brian while winding down a very successful run as a collegiate hockey player is also close to finishing his undergraduate degree in Chemistry.  With academic honors following him as closely as his hockey honors Brian will be in a great position to decide on his post graduate "job".  Be it in Hockey, as a draft choice of the Pittsburgh Penguins, or in academic areas Brian will continue to be a standout in his chosen field.  And with what he's given to amateur hockey in Minnesota, we will all certainly miss him as he moved on to his professional endeavors.
